Originally, "Prachuap Khiri Khan" was called "Mueang Narang." After it had been abandoned during the fall of the Ayutthaya Kingdom in 1767, the city of Mueang Narang was reconstructed in the reign of King Rama 2 at Khlong Bang Nang Rom, known as Muang Bang Nang Rom. Moreover, during the reign of King Rama IV, Mueang Bang Nang Rom, Mueang Kui, and Mueang Khlong Wan were combined into Mueang Prachuap. In 1915, to prevent confusion between the cities' names, King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) changed the name of the province from Pran Buri to Prachuap Khiri Khan, as its center was at the same place as the former Mueang Prachuap. In addition, Prachuap Khiri Khan is also a province located in the western region of Thailand. It has a long narrow shape from the north to the south. The narrowest part is about 12 kilometers long, which is the narrowest part of Thailand. The city hall is located in Prachuap Khiri Khan Municipality, while the most populous urban community is Hua Hin, a tourist attraction within close range of Bangkok.
